Adirondack Cabins on 400 Private Acres
in the Adirondack State Park

palisades viewSheltered Lakes encompasses 400 private acres of well-managed forestland surrounded by the six million acre Adirondack State Park. The lakes and cabins are located in the center of the property, resulting in a very quiet, back-to-nature experience.

At an elevation of 1,400 ft, our lakes are ideal for escaping the scorching summer weather of the surrounding lower lands and nearby urban centers.

Sheltered Lakes’ abundant flora and fauna create a diverse wildlife wonderland! The lakes are alive with aquatic and amphibious life including trout, bass, perch, catfish, turtles and frogs. Magnificent birds such as eagles, hawks, owls and blue herons along with a myriad of song birds frequently grace us with their presence.

Our property is the home to countless, natural woodland tree species such as white pines, cedars, hemlocks, oaks, maples and white birch. In the mix, you’ll notice lily pads, lotus flowers, colorful mushrooms and wild berries, which stand out among the varied plant life.

On-Site Hiking

Hike 1

The Knob: The Knob is at the far northeast corner of our property. From the Knob you see views of the Lake Champlain Valley and the Green Mountains of Vermont as well as Lake George and the Adirondack High Peaks. Great wildflowers and grasses are along the way. The whole walk can be done in a little over an hour or a relaxed couple of hours.

The Palisades: The Palisades are the rock cliff area at the far end of the lake. The Palisades is our shortest and easiest hike. The trail starts the same as the Knob hike but is only about 10-15 minutes to get to your destination. The payoff is a great view of the lake with Black Mountain in the background as viewed from the top of the rocky cliffs.

hike 2

Berry Mountain: This is a moderate, relatively short hike for hikers of all ages. During blueberry season the area near the peak is loaded with blueberries. At the top, you get a glimpse of our lake and the mountains beyond. This is about a one hour hike.
